Evidence Based Practice
Second semester, I developed a qualitative study with my peers, to determine if students within the OT 2015 cohort experienced compassion fatigue leading them to study occupational therapy. We interviewed multiple MSOT graduate students to determine whether or not they suffered from compassion fatigue to correlate the helping profession in which they chose. Our qualitative research study solidified a trend of specific personality traits such as empathy, compassion, and kindness, that are essential to have as a healthcare professional. The findings resulted the majority of individuals experiencing trauma throughout our interviews guiding them to occupational therapy. This opportunity allowed me to understand the difference between qualitative and quantitative research studies to develop a solidified understanding of the differences. I feel that this emphasized the importance of why evidence based practice is utilized and helped assist me with descriptions of each type of study. This was a great experience to conduct a study and interview peers to develop personally relations along with evidence-based practice.
