Social Justice
My first year of occupational therapy school, I participated in several volunteer opportunities to support with pediatric population with physical activity. To begin my fourth semester, I decided to continue to serve the pediatric population, but provide my skills to an organization which allows single mothers some time to find work or finish school. When I saw this volunteer opportunity it reminded me of an adult day care center providing respite services; however this experience involves infants so mothers are able to fulfill their opportunity toward a successful life. This took place in Henderson, NV involving 4 moms and 4 babies. Volunteers are much needed to assist with child care while moms find work and finish school. Due to my past nanny experience and my love for children, I felt that this opportunity would be a perfect fit to meet the requirements of a social justice opportunity. My passion continues to fall in the pediatric population and I hope to continue this opportunity to assist mothers with services.
