Occupation Based Practice First semester, students were asked to develop an activity analysis based upon an individual of choice. This was the beginning of my occupational therapy journey as I was granted the opportunity to dive into the realm of practice. My educational journey began as I became familiar with the occupational therapy practice framework, to enhance my understanding for the profession. The occupational profile, analysis and intervention plan utilized concepts that generalized to form a foundation. This assignment assisted me to develop analytical qualities that will be cared over in practice. I was encouraged to break down the occupation of choice into segments to ensure competency in understanding the activity analysis. It was important to differentiate the occupation from its parts being the activity and tasks involved to create the occupation.
The assignment consisted of a simplified occupational profile, a detailed activity analysis, and realistic intervention plan based on a scenario to perform an evaluation as a practitioner. Using knowledge learned over the semester and meeting the standards of the Occupational Therapy Performance Framework ensures I understand the application and perception of the skills needed in practice. The occupational analysis showed significance to me as a first semester graduate student because it provided me a sense of realism before beginning fieldwork. I was able to apply my didactic knowledge and generate an occupational profile, activity analysis and intervention on the child I nanny for. Using a familiar individual as my client of choice, eased my nerves as this was the first assignment involving an occupational therapy approach as my educational journey began. |
