Evidence Based Practice
During my level II fieldwork placement, I worked with a patient who experienced a traumatic brain injury (TBI) due to a motor vehicle accident. The patient's family was consistently involved throughout the treatment sessions, so continuous evidence based research was provided upon procedures. I developed a visual handout as an educational tool for the patient's family, to assist with the description of the injury and visually describe the levels. I incorporated evidence based research to support my interventions. Attached below are 3 evidence based articles utilized when treating a patient diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury (TBI). These articles provided sufficient evidence to answer concerns and questions and provided a foundation for treatment with proven results. Utilizing compensatory strategies along with upper limb rehabilitation, allowed me provide effective treatment sessions with proven methods of care. This process has encouraged me to continue to refer to evidence-based research, to support my intervention approach and develop a strong level of confidence with practice.
